In local mode, we can't see your activity data. utauro stores everything in a local database on your Mac and does not upload your activity by default. Future features like multi-device sync or AI summaries may ask to use a cloud service, but only if you choose to turn them on. The core contract stays the same: local tracking works locally, and nothing leaves your Mac without a clear, opt-in action from you.
01What we collect
utauro records how you spend time on your Mac — the names of active applications, window and document titles, and the number of minutes each is in focus. It builds this timeline locally so you can see where your day actually went.
The local tracker does not collect your name, email, IP address, location, contacts, keystrokes, screen contents, or the text inside your documents. There is no account required for local use, so your activity history is not linked to a utauro profile.
02Where it lives
Everything utauro records is written to a single SQLite database inside your user Library folder. In the current beta, that data stays on your Mac unless you explicitly export it. There is no utauro server receiving, mirroring, or backing up your activity.
If we add premium features such as encrypted cloud sync across devices or AI-generated summaries, they will be optional. Before any activity data leaves your Mac, the app will explain what is being sent, why it is needed, who processes it, and how to turn the feature off again.

Your data powers the features you see in the app — daily summaries, focus trends, and app breakdowns — all computed on-device today. We do not use your activity for advertising, profiling, resale, or model training.
If you later choose an AI summary or sync feature, utauro will use only the data needed for that feature. We will not use your personal activity history to train models unless we ask for separate, explicit permission.
04Third parties
In the current beta, no third party receives your activity data. utauro ships with no analytics, no crash-reporting SDK, and no advertising libraries embedded in the app. The only network request utauro makes is an optional check for a new version — which sends nothing but the app's own version number.
If a future opt-in feature uses a cloud provider or AI provider, we will name that provider before you enable the feature and document what data is shared with it.
This website is a separate, smaller story. If you join the waitlist, your email address — and nothing else — is stored with Buttondown, the newsletter service we use to send invites and utauro updates. It is never shared beyond that, and every email includes an unsubscribe link; you can also ask us to delete it at any time via the address below.

05Your rights
For local data, you already have complete control — no request forms, no waiting periods. If you later enable an account, sync, or AI feature, we will provide controls to disable it and delete any server-side data tied to that feature.
Inspect
Open the database yourself — it's a standard, unencrypted-by-us SQLite file.
Export
Download your full history as CSV or JSON anytime from Settings.
Erase
Delete everything with one click, or just remove the file. Gone means gone.
