What does utauro actually track?
The names of the applications you use, window and document titles, and how long each one is in focus. That's it — no keystrokes, no screen contents, no text inside your documents. utauro turns those signals into a timeline of your day, locally by default.
Does my data ever leave my Mac?
By default, no. In the current beta, everything is written to a local database in your user Library folder, with no account, no cloud sync, and no analytics. Future sync or AI features would be optional and clearly explained before any activity data leaves your Mac. The privacy policy spells out the details in plain language.
How much does it cost?
utauro is free while in beta — no card, no account. Pricing for 1.0 isn't decided yet; waitlist members hear about it first, and early users won't be surprised by it.
Which Macs does it run on?
macOS 14 or newer, on both Apple silicon and Intel. utauro is a native Swift menu-bar app — no Electron — so it sips battery and memory.
What permissions does it need?
One: Accessibility, so it can see which app and document is in front. Deeper per-app integrations (like per-document tracking in Word) ask separately for Automation permission for just that app. Nothing is granted silently, and everything works from the menu bar once you say yes.
What happens when I step away?
utauro notices after two minutes of no input and stops counting until you're back. Lunches, meetings away from the desk, and coffee runs don't inflate your numbers.
Can I export or delete my data?
Both. Export your full history as CSV or JSON from Settings whenever you like, and erase everything with one click — or just delete the database file yourself. It's a standard SQLite file; you can even open it directly.
When do I get access?
We send invites in small batches as the beta grows, in waitlist order. Join with your email and you'll get a download link the moment a spot opens — and you can unsubscribe any time.
